Dog Selection & Application Process

Criteria to rehome with SSF Dogs

The dogs that are selected for our training program are:

• Under three years of age.
• Weigh between 10–70 pounds.
• Family friendly breeds or mixes.
• Confident in new settings.
• Looking for love and affection from strangers.
• Happy for treats and toys.
• Engaging with other dogs, and comfortable living with other dogs
• Welcoming of anyone into the yard or home, not protective.
• Healthy, playful, and active.

The Application Process

Once you have submitted your application, we may ask you to share some video of your dog walking around on leash in a dog friendly public setting such as Petsmart or Home Depot. The last step is scheduling an in-person ‘meet and greet’ with you and your dog at our facility grounds in Malibu, California. During this visit, we will tell you if your dog is a candidate for our Assistance Dogs Program.
